In accordance with the Weighing Act of 1965, scales certified for commercial use were delivered in Finland for decades. However, as we entered the new millennium, the need to update it increased, and with the renewal of European Union directives, Finnish laws were finally updated to meet the requirements of time and the industry.
Advances in technology makes it possible to operate more efficiently
In addition to the regulations, technology is also constantly evolving. Weighing and measuring technology is raising its profile, and digitalisation offers new opportunities for processing and utilizing production data. This offers companies new ways to make their operations more efficient and productive. Measurement data management is at the heart of today’s digitalization, perhaps even deeper than one might quickly think. For this reason, it is very important to take into account the processing of measurement data already in the design and development phase of the system.
The design and operation of a scaleFor commercial use must meet criteria that are determined by laws, directives and many standards. In addition, the design and implementation of automation for commercial scales is not as straightforward as for non-commercial scales. In the case of a commercial scale, design and development require a different level of expertise than a basic process scale, as the presumption of conformity with the legal requirements must be met.
The tactics of one expert supplier will make your daily life easier
Sometimes situations arise where issues related to the design and delivery of a commercial scale are not considered in any way. This is often due to the fact that when building a weighing system or scales, one company supplies the weighing components, another the mechanics and a third company is responsible for automation. When there are several suppliers, none of the companies alone, even in theory, can take responsibility for the mechanical operation of the scales and for complying with the regulations of commercial scales. Unless they have been considered holistically from the outset.
Prior to commissioning, the commercial scale must be first certified, i.e. made suitable for commercial use. Lahti Precision is one of the few Finnish operators with the right for first certification of the scales. Commercial scales must be subject to statutory certification every three years.
Lahti Precision’s experts are happy to answer questions related to commercial scales, their technology or related laws and regulations.
