A couple of companies involved in the refining and manufacturing of battery metals contacted us a few years ago and told us that there might be a demand for our expertise. We soon realized that our decades of experience with various bulk material handling systems would be needed in that new industry as well.
Safe and high-quality industrial process units for the needs of the battery industry
In recent years, we have developed our own industrial process units for the needs of the battery industry, especially for handling of lithium, nickel, cobalt and other materials at the beginning of production. These process units include e.g., unloading stations, mixing reactors, additive dosing equipment and, of course, traditional industrial scales such as floor scales and silo scales. These can also be used to treat black pulp from battery recycling. In addition, our deliveries may include filling stations for big bags and IBCs, LIW feeders and cup scales for the dosing of small quantities.
Operational safety in the handling of materials has recently become an important role due to the toxicity of several materials used in the manufacture of battery cells. Lahti Precision has identified this challenge and we strive to meet it with product dust management solutions designed for these materials.
An efficient and reliable process for manufacturing batteries with a complete solution
Instead of supplying only individual products or components, we aim to design a system together with the customer that consists of suitable modules, that better meets the customer’s need – whether it is a smaller or a larger entity. We have solid expertise in plant automation, so we can provide a complete solution that includes local control units and software with its user interfaces. Connections to potential parent systems are agile as needed and meet reporting and production process information needs.

One party takes overall responsibility for the functioning of the process
When designing systems, it makes sense to give the focus of the equipment design on to an expert, leaving the other design and project organisation time to manage the main project itself. Our customers have found this operational model to work very well and have been extremely pleased that one party is taking overall responsibility for how the process works. Experts like us at Lahti Precision can also bring different views to the operation of the process when it comes to a new production area or extension to an existing process or to its equipment. We are able to provide integrations to the various processes, whether it is material handling, dosing, or mixing of powders into a liquid, i.e., slurring.
We are a suitably sized player capable of delivering a cost-effective total solution with flexible agility. However, we have sufficient resources to be able to handle our project content with high quality to the commissioning phase.
