Lahti Precision supplies MixingLAHTI solutions for dry bulk materials’ mixing and for wet mixing. Application industries for MixingLAHTI dry material mixers are for example construction material (drymix), feed, food or chemical industries. MixingLAHTI wet mixing equipment are used widely in glue mixing for plywood and laminated veneer lumber (LVL).
In case of MixingLAHTI dry material mixers the customers can choose from two available mixing technologies; one shaft shear force mixers or twin shaft combined paddle / shear force mixers. Both of these mixer types will perform well in the dry mix manufacturing process.
There are some aspects to be considered in the case:
- MixingLAHTI direct drive single shaft mixers general assembly layout is more rectangular shaped. This means that the main scales (typically aggregate and binding material) emptying have to be placed in both ends of the mixer chamber and the additive scale’s emptying in the middle section. The latter being the area where actual mixing happens in this kind of mixers. The consequences are that the scale layout have to follow that as well and there is less variation for scale level general layout.
- MixingLAHTI direct drive twin shaft mixer general assembly layout is almost a square shape. Because of the twin shaft principle the scale emptying position on the mixer chamber top does not play any role. This allows us to design the scale level layout freely without any compromises.
- Single shaft mixers are more sensitive for batch filling degree variations than twin shaft mixers. This is because twin shaft mixer chamber’s filling degree can be varied with wider tolerance than single shaft mixers without any change in mixing performance. Mainly this can be seen as mixer venting solution which is easier and many times more desirable in twin shaft mixers. They need minimal amount de-dusting suction i.e. the valuable additives will not be sucked away from the batch.
- Twin shaft mixers run smoother than single shaft mixers because the two shafts are balancing each other while they rotate opposite directions. Single shaft mixers require special steel structures or vibration damping elements because the rotation is not naturally balanced. Both mixer types are equipped with robust and long lasting mechanics but twin shaft mixers wearing is less due to >50% lower mixing shaft radial rotation speed.
